As Fitzroy's Marios celebrates its 20th anniversary it is also farewelling one of its longest-serving and most visible (and audible) waiters. Andrew Philipp has been working the breakfast shift at Marios for 15 years, keeping thousands of diners amused while they wait for their early morning caffeine hit. Mario Di Pasquale says it is ‘hard to get your head around him not being there any more’. So what next for Philipp? ‘I'm thinking of taking up the Government's $5000 relocation offer and moving to the north-west to drive a truck,’ he says. ‘Or I may re-emerge as a tweed-clad TAFE teacher.’
