The Basement Tapes: Towards Love: another vision of The Road
The $15,000 Pascall Prize, awarded to a critic whose work has significantly contributed to the public appreciation, enjoyment and understanding of the arts, has been awarded this year to reviewer Mark Mordue.
The Pascall Prize is Australia’s foremost Award for reviewers and critics. Work entered may relate to any aspect of the creative or performing arts, including so-called ‘popular culture’.
In a strong list of contenders, the judges said that Mark’s writing stood out both for its style and for its passionate commitment to its subject matter. They were particularly drawn to his moving review of the film THE ROAD in the Australian Literary Review in December last year.
“Mordue brings to his arts journalism his own personal experiences and insights, as well as an impressively broad-ranging knowledge of literature, film and music. His lively mind and delicious turns of phrase are a gift and delight for the reader.”
