We did ‘in a silent way’ and ‘boogie oogie oogie’ and ‘crawfish’ and ‘stranger in my own home town’ and ‘parchman farm’ and many of my tunes as the audience chatted away. We ended with a falsetto, Curtis Mayfield style version of ‘Nick the stripper’ by the Birtday Party. Nick said he recognized it by the opening chord which was nice as it was his song and Mick Harvey commented on the fact that doing the song in 4/4 rather than 5/4 was wrong and we needed to shift it to 7/8. We are familiar with his cruel wit and nodded as if we understood and could begin to execute his demands. Rowland S Howard kept his thoughts to himself.
